There may only be a few weeks left in the Summer of 2018 but that’s still plenty of time to get out and enjoy the good weather! While you’re making the most out of your August, you may want to consider taking some time to make sure your vehicle’s maintenance is up-to-date. Most people tend to drive more in the summertime which can lead to wear and tear on various components so being proactive in your vehicle maintenance NOW can help you avoid shelling out big bucks for expensive repairs in the fall and winter months!
Here are a few late-summer car care tips for you to consider:
Check Your Fluids.
You’re probably on top of your oil change schedule but if you haven’t had some of your other fluids – coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid, etc. – checked or flushed in a while, it’s a good idea to visit an ASE-certified technician soon to make sure they’re all in good shape. Fluids ensure your vehicle runs smoothly and serious problems can arise from not having them at the proper level or in the proper condition.
Check Your Cabin Air Filter.
As you’ve been driving around with greater frequency during the summer months, you’ve also most likely been using your air conditioning system more than usual which means your cabin air filter has been getting a significant workload which could lead to problems.
An old or dirty air filter can not only cause issues for your car in terms of fuel efficiency and engine power but can also lead to problems for your family’s health as well. Dust and fungus can collect on an aging air filter and cause colds, infections or even allergic reactions for regular passengers.
Check Your Alignment.
The more you drive, the more wear and tear your vehicle endures – particularly your tires, steering and suspension, all of which are all dependent upon proper wheel alignment. If your wheels aren’t properly aligned, not only will your steering be off and more difficult to manage but your tire tread will wear out much quicker and your suspension will be off-kilter which can lead to serious issues for your vehicle’s driveability. The first time you notice your vehicle veering in one direction or another as you drive, you should bring it in to our shop for an alignment as soon as possible.
